These eight Miyazaki-directed movies and most other Steelbook Editions in Shout Factory’s Ghibli catalog share a consistent design aesthetic: a vibrant, solid background color with central character art. The Boy and the Heron and Grave of the Fireflies are notable exceptions. The Boy and the Heron, the first and only Studio Ghibli movie on 4K Blu-ray, features a full scene on its steelbook cover and is discounted to $28. Shout Factory adopted a similar approach for Grave of the Fireflies when the 1989 film made its return to Blu-ray, and its Steelbook Edition is now at an all-time low price of $17.89. The most affordable Studio Ghibli Steelbook Edition currently is Earwig and the Witch for $10, though this 2020 film is recognized for its generic 3D animation, diverging from Ghibli’s signature visual style. Also featured is The Castle of Cagliostro’s upcoming Steelbook Edition, a 1979 animated film that predates Studio Ghibli but marks Hayao Miyazaki’s directorial debut. The Castle of Cagliostro Steelbook Edition is set to release on December 14.

Hayao Miyazaki’s Manga & Studio Ghibli Film Comics
Fans of Hayao Miyazaki should also explore the Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Manga Box Set, the only manga series personally authored by Miyazaki. This seven-volume series contains a wealth of material not included in the film adaptation, presented in two hardcover books totaling an impressive 1,104 pages. This stunning collection, previously hard to find, is now available for order again. Additionally, discover Shuna’s Journey, another manga written and illustrated in watercolor by Miyazaki, currently available for over 50% off. First published in 1983, this captivating story received its English translation in 2022.
A selection of Studio Ghibli films have been adapted into comics. Individual volumes of these Film Comics were once hard to find, but Viz Media’s new All-in-One Editions have revitalized them as budget-friendly hardcover books. Film Comic adaptations of Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Ponyo are available now. Each book compiles still images from the movies alongside text, offering the full story in a different medium.
Spirited Away’s omnibus, the largest at 856 pages, is currently on sale for $29.17. The All-in-One Edition of Ponyo’s Film Comic, released in July, is also on sale for $21.76. You can also preorder Princess Mononoke Film Comic: All-in-One Edition for $32.55 (originally $35) before its January 2026 release.
