Filmmaker Amar Kaushik has shed light on the persistent rumors surrounding Alia Bhatt’s potential involvement in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) with the upcoming film Chamunda. In a recent conversation with Filmfare, Kaushik acknowledged the speculation but maintained a diplomatic stance, stating, “I am not denying or accepting anything right now.” He further emphasized Maddock’s unique approach to filmmaking, highlighting that, “we don’t write the script or story based on the cast.”
Addressing the direct question about Alia Bhatt’s potential casting in Chamunda, Kaushik expressed that everything unfolds according to its own timeline. “When it happens, everyone will know,” he remarked. He reiterated the studio’s focus on story development before finalizing cast members. “We only focus on the story and think about the casting later,” Kaushik added.
Raising the Bar with MHCU
Kaushik also spoke about the ambition to elevate the quality of films within the MHCU. “The audience can expect the bar will go up (with the upcoming films). We will try to take the bar up,” he assured. He emphasized that the films are created with the audience in mind and encouraged feedback through social media platforms. Kaushik stressed the importance of honesty and integrity in filmmaking, drawing a parallel to their initial film, Stree. “We want to be honest and make a film that is honest, like we did with our first film (Stree). This is what I want from the audience. We give them what they want,” he concluded.
Maddock Horror Comedy Universe Lineup
The successful MHCU commenced with Amar Kaushik’s directorial, Stree. The universe has since expanded with four interconnected films: Stree 2, Bhediya, Munjya, and the recently released Thamma. The upcoming projects include Shakti Shalini, featuring Aneet Padda, and Bhediya 2, which will see Varun Dhawan returning to the franchise.
Alia Bhatt’s Upcoming Projects

Additionally, Bhatt is also collaborating with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period romantic drama, Love & War.
