As a devoted fan of the Adeptus Mechanicus, any Warhammer project featuring them immediately grabs my attention. From my tabletop armies to my personal collection of servo skulls, I’m a staunch supporter of the ‘toaster’ faction. The recent Mechanicus 2 demo was impressive, and even my preview for Dawn of War 4 highlighted their presence. Now, with developer Fatshark teasing a new class for Warhammer 40k Darktide, I have a strong hunch that a robotic addition is on its way.
Consider the current roster of Darktide characters; it already offers a diverse representation of 41st millennium society. We have religious zealots, skilled soldiers, abhumans, both reviled and potent psykers, and even space police. The glaring omission from this lineup is any representative from the technological side of the Imperium.
A previous teaser also hinted at radium weapons, which some initially believed were integrated into the recent plasma-wielding Scab. However, I suspect there’s more to this. Especially since another new class is slated for revelation once the current Stolen Rations event concludes.
Fatshark is keeping details under wraps, but this promises to be a significant addition to the game’s established order. While further information on the new playable character will follow the November announcement, my prediction leans heavily towards a Mechanicus presence.
Of course, other possibilities exist. A Sister of Battle or a Ratling could be popular choices. However, a Ratling would necessitate extensive development to adjust the game’s perspective and might overlap too much with the existing Ogryn abhuman. But a dedicated servant of the Machine God? That would introduce a crucial technological class to the game, and a Skitarii-like character would be relatively straightforward to implement, given their similar height to standard humans.
Following the new class reveal, Fatshark plans to release a free update on Tuesday, December 2. This update will introduce a new trench-based Operation mission, though it’s improbable the new class will be immediately playable. Nevertheless, it marks an exciting way to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the ‘tide series.
The new class for Warhammer 40k Darktide is officially set to be revealed on Tuesday, November 11.
