The entire East Wing of the White House is slated for demolition in the coming days, according to two Trump administration officials. Construction crews commenced demolition work on Monday, with the aim of completing the full teardown by the end of the week. These officials shared this information with CBS, the BBC’s US news partner.
Previously, President Donald Trump had stated that his new $250 million ballroom addition would not impact the existing building. The White House, a landmark that has housed US presidents for two centuries, saw the East Wing constructed in 1902 and last modified in 1942.
