A devastating accident on Uganda’s Kampala-Gulu Highway has claimed the lives of 46 people. The collision, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, involved two buses, a lorry, and a car. Police report that the incident began when two buses traveling in opposite directions made head-on contact while attempting to overtake other vehicles. One bus reportedly swerved to avoid a collision, triggering a chain reaction that led to multiple vehicles losing control and overturning.
In addition to the fatalities, numerous passengers sustained injuries and have been transported to various hospitals in the Kiryandongo area. An investigation into the exact cause of the crash is underway.
President Yoweri Museveni expressed his sadness over the tragedy and offered condolences to the affected families, urging for greater caution on the roads. The government has announced financial assistance for the bereaved families and the injured.
