Good news for retro gaming enthusiasts! The redesigned 8BitDo 64 wireless controller is currently on sale for just $26.33, a significant drop from its usual $40 price tag. This versatile Bluetooth controller is perfect for playing your favorite titles on Nintendo Switch, the upcoming Switch 2, PC, and Android devices.
Currently, this special price applies only to the white edition. The black version of the controller, which launched in July, is still retailing closer to its full price at $37.21.
Should you encounter any syncing issues with the Switch 2, a simple firmware update for the controller is likely all that’s needed. For those with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, the 8BitDo 64 offers a far more affordable and ergonomically superior option compared to Nintendo’s own $55 N64 controller.
Developed in collaboration with retro hardware specialist Analogue, the 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller was originally revealed last October alongside the highly anticipated Analogue 3D console. Interestingly, the controller made it to market before the console itself, as the Analogue 3D has faced multiple delays and is now expected to launch in Q4 2025.
Key Features of the 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller:
- Modernized Design: This wireless Bluetooth gamepad incorporates all the classic N64 button elements into a sleek, contemporary form factor, reminiscent of 8BitDo’s popular Ultimate Controller series.
- Advanced Joystick: The joystick is repositioned to the left and features Hall Effect sensors with a durable metal ring, ensuring smooth, precise control and eliminating the common issue of stick drift.
- Authentic N64 Feel: 8BitDo meticulously recreated the N64 control stick’s surface with three circular ridges. It boasts a comfortable rubberized stick cap, a welcome upgrade from the original’s hard plastic. The octagonal stick gate, designed to emulate the N64’s eight-way D-pad, is also present. The actual D-pad has been relocated but remains in a tactile recessed pocket.
- Classic Button Layout with Modern Twists: The familiar large A/B buttons and four C buttons retain their original N64 size and shape. Shoulder buttons (R and L) and triggers have been modernized. Uniquely, both top triggers function as Z buttons, offering versatility beyond the N64 library.
- Enhanced Functionality: The classic N64 Start button makes a return, complemented by additional buttons common to 8BitDo Switch controllers: Minus (Select), 8BitDo (Home), and Turbo. The Turbo function allows for rapid, repeated button presses by simply holding it down.
- Customization and Compatibility: Full control remapping and other adjustments are possible via the 8BitDo Ultimate Software (desktop or mobile app). The controller supports S-Input (Switch) and D-Input modes. While it includes built-in rumble motors, vibration functionality is currently supported only on Analogue 3D and Nintendo Switch.
Beyond the N64 controller, other fantastic 8BitDo gamepads are also available at discounted prices. The 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad, recently launched, is on sale for $63 (down from $70). It’s compatible with Switch 2, Switch, PC/Mac, mobile devices, and SteamOS. The Pro 3 comes in four vibrant colors, including eye-catching purple and orange variants inspired by the classic GameCube consoles.
For those seeking versatility, the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller is also available for $63 (originally $70), compatible with Switch 1/2, PC, Mac, Apple devices, and Android. If Nintendo console support isn’t a priority, the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller (PC, Apple, SteamOS, Android) can be found for as low as $47.54 (reduced from $60).
What is the Analogue 3D?

Although pre-orders for this $250 console sold out last October, keen retro gamers should keep an eye out for potential restocks once it officially launches in Q4 2025.
This console allows you to play your original N64 game cartridges with impeccable hardware-accurate emulation and 100% compatibility, all in stunning 4K resolution. It features four controller ports, accommodating genuine Nintendo 64 three-prong controllers or various third-party wired options. However, it’s important to note that the Analogue 3D does not include a controller, making the 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller an excellent complementary purchase.
If you’re looking for other options, preowned N64 controllers can often be found, or you can opt for one of the many available clones of the original controller.
