Fans of the beloved Simpsons Hit & Run game can now embark on a thrilling new adventure, as an incredible mod has transformed it into a Futurama-themed experience. This impressive fan creation has even captured the attention of the original game’s lead designer.
Dubbed “Futurama Hit & Run,” the demo is currently available as a free download. To play, you’ll only need a copy of the original Simpsons game on PC.
Released in 2003 for PC, PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox, The Simpsons Hit & Run drew significant inspiration from the Grand Theft Auto series. This Futurama mod maintains that familiar gameplay, allowing players to control Fry as he navigates New New York, undertaking missions for iconic characters like Bender, Professor Farnsworth, and Dr. Zoidberg.

Of course, driving is a key component, with Fry cruising through New New York in a hovercar. One mission even involves escorting Bender to the Planet Express headquarters while evading hover police. While full aerial flight isn’t currently an option, it could be a future addition.
The demo boasts four story missions, along with various street races, unique vehicles, costumes, and plenty of Easter eggs to discover. The development team has also transparently stated that the current dialogue is AI-generated and serves as a “temporary placeholder.” They confirm that professional voice artists are already working on new recordings, which will be integrated in a future update.
The mod has received overwhelmingly positive feedback, notably from Joe McGinn, the lead designer of the original The Simpsons: Hit & Run game. McGinn enthusiastically commented on the mod’s trailer, saying, “This looks awesome! I want to play it.”
Simpsons fans have long yearned for a new game, and their hopes were previously raised by another unofficial Hit & Run remake project in Unreal Engine 5. Unfortunately, that ambitious endeavor faced legal challenges from Disney, leading its creator to announce that the completed version will never see a public release.
Nevertheless, there’s still official Simpsons content on the horizon, with the franchise’s much-anticipated Fortnite mini-season seemingly just around the corner.
