A man from Kollam, Kerala, who had been missing since a tragic boat accident off the coast of Mozambique, has now been officially confirmed dead. The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Sreerag Radhakrishnan from Naduvilakara, Thevalakkara.
Sreerag and his 22-year-old colleague, Indrajith from Piravom, Ernakulam district, disappeared after their boat capsized on October 16 near Beira port. The vessel was carrying 21 individuals, including 14 Indian nationals, en route to the tanker MT Sea Quest for maintenance.
Kollam MP N.K. Premachandran confirmed the devastating news, stating that Mozambique authorities recovered Sreerag’s body after an extensive search operation. He noted that the body was found in a severely decomposed state. “The authorities have assured that all necessary steps will be taken to repatriate the body to India,” Premachandran conveyed.
The search efforts are still ongoing for Indrajith, as confirmed by his grieving family. Sreerag’s family revealed that he had only arrived in Mozambique on October 13. He had dedicated seven years to working for a shipping company and had returned home just six months prior for the birth of his son.
Now, Sreerag’s family anxiously awaits official communication from the Indian High Commission regarding the procedures for bringing his remains back home.
