Expanding Horizons: A Focus on South Asia
To celebrate the launch of this exciting partnership, a special event was hosted on September 20, 2025, at the Sheraton Hotel in New Delhi’s Saket District Centre. This exclusive gathering brought together prominent education leaders and InUni’s key partners to explore The University of Akron’s impressive academic portfolio and its vision for global student engagement.
Marty Bennett, UA’s Director of International Recruitment & Engagement, spearheaded the event, formally introducing the university to the South Asian education community. He underscored UA’s commitment to providing career-focused, hands-on learning experiences designed to equip international students for success in today’s demanding global job market. With its nationally acclaimed programs in STEM, engineering, health sciences, and business, The University of Akron distinguishes itself through innovative curricula and robust industry partnerships. Through this new collaboration, InUni Global is poised to enhance access to these exceptional programs for aspiring students across the South Asian region.

During the event, Marty Bennett participated in a brief Q&A session, sharing valuable insights on several key questions:
Q1. What are the admission requirements for international applicants at the University of Akron?
A1. For undergraduate applicants, the process is straightforward. We require mark sheets from the 9th, 10th, and 11th years of secondary school, along with Standard X board results (if applying before completing 12th standard boards). Additionally, students must submit an English proficiency test score (TOEFL-71, IELTS-6.0, Pearson PTE-48, LanguageCert Academic-65, Duolingo English Test-95) or a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter from their school’s registrar confirming English as the primary language of instruction.
For postgraduate applicants, in addition to bachelor’s degree transcripts and an English proficiency test score (or university MOI), students need to provide a Statement of Purpose (SOP) and 2-3 letters of recommendation.
It’s worth noting that we do not charge an application fee for international students, nor do we require standardized academic tests like SAT/ACT for undergraduate admissions or GRE/GMAT for postgraduate programs. Our admissions operate on a rolling basis, with decisions made throughout the year.
Q2. Can you outline the tuition and fees for international students, and are there specific scholarships or financial aid options available?
A2. Undergraduate applicants are automatically considered for merit scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 annually upon admission. Those awarded the highest-tier scholarship are also encouraged to apply to the Honors College, which offers up to an additional $2,500 per year in scholarships.
Starting in the 2026-27 academic year, the estimated total annual costs for undergraduates (including tuition, fees, living expenses, health insurance, personal expenses, and books/supplies) are projected to be $40,000+.
For postgraduate applicants, financial aid is typically managed at the departmental level, with graduate assistantships being the most common form of support. These assistantships usually cover tuition and provide a stipend for up to 20 hours of work per week within the department.
For postgraduate students, the estimated total annual costs (including tuition, fees, living expenses, health insurance, personal expenses, and books/supplies) starting in the 2026-27 academic year are projected to be $36,000+.
Q3. Which programs or degrees at The University of Akron are most recognized internationally?
A3. Our Polymer Science and Plastics Engineering program holds a #1 global ranking, according to EduRank 2025. In addition to our other STEM-certified engineering and computer science degrees, which include specializations in cybersecurity and networking, our AACSB double-accredited College of Business offers an undergraduate program in sport analytics and four STEM master’s degrees. These master’s programs feature management degrees with options in data analytics and supply chain.
Q4. What support services help international students adapt, such as orientation, academic advising, or immigration assistance?
A4. Our International Center offers comprehensive, full-lifecycle support for international students. This begins with assistance through the post-admission/I-20 request process, extends to pre-arrival training, orientation, and continuous immigration guidance for travel and work permissions via CPT/OPT (Curricular or Optional Practical Training). We also provide health insurance advice, cultural and social programming throughout the academic year, and support right up to graduation.
Q5. What internship, research, and career placement opportunities are available for international students during or after their studies?
A5. An impressive 89% of all UA students engage in some form of experiential learning before graduation, including internships, clinicals, study abroad programs, and co-op placements. For instance, all undergraduate engineering students complete three full-time co-op rotations, typically earning an average of $45,000 for a year of full-time work.
Furthermore, a remarkable 94% of our graduates are either employed in their academic field or have pursued further higher education.
