As Diwali approaches, actress Ridhima Pandit is immersed in the festive spirit, eagerly anticipating the traditional Maharashtrian celebrations. Her preparations include the exciting hunt for the perfect ‘kandil’ (lantern), a beloved ritual that signals the start of the festivities.
Ridhima fondly recalls her childhood fascination with making Diwali snacks, admitting she often created more mess than help while assisting her grandmother. However, she has since honed her culinary skills, now adept at preparing a variety of traditional Maharashtrian ‘faral’ (snacks) like ‘chakli,’ ‘ghoogra,’ and ‘karanjya.’
Maintaining a strict diet is a constant for actors, but Ridhima confesses that the five days leading up to Diwali, the festival day itself, and a few days following mark a delightful indulgence period. She playfully admits that the concept of calorie deficit completely disappears during this time, as she savors every festive treat.
The culinary journey continues with a lavish Maharashtrian lunch, featuring ‘amti’ (a type of pickle or sour curry), an array of sweets including her favorite ‘karanjya,’ ‘kaju katli,’ ‘gulab jamun,’ and ‘jalebi.’
Beyond the food, Ridhima is also deeply involved in home decor. She takes pride in adorning the entrance with ‘toran’ (door hangings) and collectively with her family, they illuminate the home with new lights each year, filling their space with beautiful flowers and a festive aroma.
