Famed actor Aaron Paul, widely recognized for his role in Breaking Bad, is making his debut in the world of video games with the upcoming title, Dispatch. Paul, who is famously selective about his projects, revealed that despite receiving numerous offers, he often declines. So, what made him break his streak for Dispatch? He shared that among the many scripts and a game sizzle reel he reviewed, one particular scene instantly captivated him.
“It’s just these two characters sitting on top of a billboard, having a conversation, and I just, I just love the tone,” he said.
Paul found himself utterly engrossed in the game’s narrative, admitting he “couldn’t stop” reading the scripts once he started. His connection with the story deepened after meeting the creators, making the decision to join the project an easy one.
Dispatch boasts an impressive cast, including Oscar-nominated actor Jeffrey Wright, Laura Bailey, and Matthew Mercer. Creative director Nick Herman and game director Dennis Lenart initially targeted Paul for the lead role of Robert Robertson, a decision Herman confessed they thought was a long shot. However, casting director Linda Lamontagne had a strong intuition that Paul would connect with the material, a feeling that proved to be spot on.
Developed by AdHoc Studio, a team comprising talent from former Telltale Games projects, Dispatch is an episodic adventure comedy. Players step into the shoes of Paul’s character, Robert Robertson, a former superhero now working as a dispatcher for other heroes. The game is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC on October 22nd. A free demo is currently available for those eager to try it out.
While Dispatch marks Aaron Paul’s first venture into voice acting for a video game, he previously starred in the 2014 Need for Speed film, an adaptation of the popular EA racing game series.
