Sega and Waze have teamed up to bring the iconic speedster, Sonic the Hedgehog, directly into your daily commute. Starting today, Waze users can select Sonic’s voice to deliver their driving directions. Whether you’re heading to work or embarking on an adventure, Sonic will be there to guide you, offering navigation in both English and French. Sega promises that he’ll share directions with his well-known ‘coolness and confidence.’ However, don’t expect him to tell you to ‘go fast’ – safety first!

Beyond just his voice, the Waze app is getting a full Sonic makeover! Users can now access various Sonic-themed icons, including ‘Speedster Lightning,’ which transforms your in-app car into a vehicle from Sonic Racing: Crossworlds. You can also select the ‘Energetic’ mood to infuse the entire Waze interface with ‘extra Sonic personality.’ This exciting collaboration is part of Sega’s ongoing celebration of Sonic the Hedgehog’s 35th anniversary. The company hints at even more thrilling announcements throughout the year leading up to the official anniversary in 2026.
This isn’t Waze’s first venture into gaming crossovers. The Google-owned GPS application previously partnered with Microsoft to feature Master Chief from Halo, and also offered a World of Warcraft collaboration where Thrall, the Horde Warchief, provided directions.
