Frustration Mounts: Battlefield 6 Players Turn to XP Farming in Portal Lobbies Due to Slow Progression

Less than a week after its highly anticipated launch, players of Battlefield 6 have already discovered and begun utilizing “XP farming” tactics within the game’s Portal mode. This surge in activity comes as many express significant frustration with what they describe as a sluggish progression system.

Fans were quick to criticize the new FPS entry’s progression as a tedious grind. While many genuinely enjoy the core multiplayer experience crafted by Battlefield Studios, even the most dedicated players feel that leveling up takes far too long. The unrewarding weapon unlock system and overly demanding challenges only further dampen the overall experience.

A prominent gaming personality on Twitter highlighted this sentiment, stating, “The general unlock process in Battlefield 6 is too slow. I understand wanting to make it challenging for players to get the best stuff, but I’m dreading how long it’s going to take to bring just a few guns up to a decent level for attachments etc, and I’m an engaged player…”

On Reddit, one player echoed the community’s frustration, asking, “Do they really think players have that much time and energy to grind endlessly just to get the rewards we’re supposed to earn naturally? It’s exhausting.”

Given this widespread discontent, it’s no surprise that players quickly turned to Battlefield Portal. This innovative do-it-yourself mode, first seen in 2021’s Battlefield 2042, empowers players to create almost any match or mode imaginable. Crucially, the right custom setup can allow Portal users to earn experience at a rate comparable to standard multiplayer matches, making it an ideal environment for XP farm servers to rapidly emerge.

Several content creators have been instrumental in spreading awareness, recommending specific Portal lobbies designed for rapid leveling. These lobbies are typically filled with AI bots and are configured to closely resemble standard Battlefield 6 modes, ensuring that the experience point gain remains unaffected. Players are often advised to activate double XP tokens, if available, and focus on eliminating AI enemies near objectives for maximum efficiency.

The desire to bypass demanding progression systems is hardly new in the gaming world, so these XP farm servers in Portal were quickly flooded with impatient fans. However, some players suspect that EA is already moving to curb this activity.

As more XP farm lobbies populate the Portal community browser, many players are encountering a mysterious “Global Game Quota Exceeded” message without clear explanation. This has led to speculation that EA and BF Studios are actively cracking down on suspicious lobbies to prevent players from exploiting Battlefield 6’s progression and Portal tools.

While this error is certainly disrupting some XP farmers, it’s not definitively clear if it’s a direct intervention to stop farming. Reports indicate that Portal players have received this message even when not intentionally hosting or joining XP farms, and some cannot even initiate server hosting. This suggests that the Battlefield 6 Portal servers might simply be struggling under the immense load from last week’s massive launch, which saw over 740,000 concurrent players on Steam. Neither EA nor BF Studios have issued any official statements regarding actions against XP farming.

Despite the ambiguity surrounding the “Global Game Quota Exceeded” error, the popularity of XP farming undoubtedly plays a role. The widespread criticism of Battlefield 6’s progression system has led to an overflow of custom servers, as players seek faster ways to unlock content. Some dedicated Portal creators believe that this sheer volume of individual lobbies is contributing to the online experience’s overall congestion.

A Reddit embed from the Battlefield Portal community showed users discussing the “Global game quota exceeded” error, further highlighting player confusion and the impact on the user-generated content scene.

Battlefield 6 officially launched on October 10 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. Its release was a monumental success on Steam, becoming the franchise’s most successful PC launch ever, with a peak of more than 740,000 concurrent users.

While the community awaits official responses from EA and BF Studios regarding XP farming and progression, players have also creatively used Portal to recreate iconic maps like Call of Duty’s Shipment. Additionally, ongoing discussions highlight the challenges faced by Support players in keeping their teammates revived and happy.
