Diane Keaton’s son, Duke, is in mourning following the recent passing of his mother at the age of 79. The 25-year-old was photographed for the first time since her death, leaving the late actress’s Los Angeles residence. Dressed in all black and carrying a backpack, Duke also sported two silver cross necklaces, a subtle tribute to his mother’s distinctive style reminiscent of her 1990s “devoted nun” look.
Diane Keaton’s Motherhood Journey
Keaton, who adopted both Duke and his older sister Dexter (now 29) in her 50s, embraced motherhood as a deliberate choice. She once shared with Ladies’ Home Journal that motherhood wasn’t an impulsive decision but “a thought I’d been thinking for a very long time.”
While her children largely remained out of the spotlight, they were present to support her at the Hand & Footprint Ceremony in Los Angeles in August 2022. Keaton expressed the profound significance of their presence, stating, “Everything. I love them.” She also noted the healthy distance her children maintained from her profession, contributing to a relatively normal family life.
The family confirmed Keaton’s death in California on Saturday, with the cause of death yet to be announced. Friends have described her health decline as “very sudden” and unexpected, given her known vitality and spirit. Longtime friend Carole Bayer Sager noted that Keaton had lost significant weight in the weeks leading up to her death.
Keaton had previously spoken about her battles with skin cancer and an eating disorder, though she kept any recent health struggles private. Her last social media activity was an Instagram post on April 11 featuring her golden retriever, Reggie. She had not been publicly seen for six months prior to her passing.
