Rescue teams are in a desperate search for over 65 individuals missing across Mexico following devastating floods and landslides. The heavy downpours, fueled by two tropical storms, have submerged 150 locations in five states, with authorities confirming at least 64 fatalities. The Mexican President has pledged support for the disaster-stricken regions.
The storms have caused rivers to breach their banks, leading to widespread destruction. Homes, roads, and vehicles have been swept away by the torrents, with landslides adding to the devastation. María Salas, 49, tragically lost five family members when their house collapsed in Huauchinango, a mountain town in Puebla state. She described her own home being washed away by a landslide, leaving her with nothing and unable to return.
Huauchinango is one of the few areas accessible within the affected zone. President Sheinbaum visited a shelter there, promising assistance for rebuilding efforts. Approximately 100 small communities remain isolated due to damaged power and communication lines, highlighting the scale of the disaster.
