Gearbox recently unveiled a comprehensive look at the upcoming Borderlands 4 DLC and content updates planned for the remainder of the year. During a special presentation at PAX Australia, the developers revealed the full Borderlands 4 roadmap through the end of 2025, with the highly anticipated first paid Bounty Pack expansion taking center stage. Even if you haven’t invested in the season pass, you’ll still get to experience a thrilling Halloween event and challenge the game’s inaugural Invincible boss entirely for free.
Having cautiously jumped into Borderlands 4, largely due to Borderlands 3 losing my interest quickly, I’m genuinely excited and ready to dive into these new DLC offerings. While the narrative’s conclusion was a tad anticlimactic for my personal preference, Gearbox has otherwise delivered a fantastic return to the series’ roots. It stands out as one of the most engaging first-person shooters I’ve experienced in years, boasting an endgame that promises to keep me hooked. Though I still have corners of Kairos to discover, the first taste of new content is just around the corner.
Kicking things off, players can expect some spine-tingling Halloween frights. The free, limited-time Borderlands 4 ‘Horrors of Kairos’ event will be active from Thursday, October 23, until Thursday, November 6. This eerie event will transform world bosses with “terror-inducing blood rain” and provide opportunities to acquire two brand-new Borderlands 4 legendary weapons.
Among these new additions is the ‘Murmur’ Tediore assault rifle, which guarantees critical hits on enemies below 35% health. Additionally, the ‘Skully’ Order grenade will release homing projectiles upon detonation. To celebrate the festivities, players can also look forward to receiving a unique pumpkin head cosmetic and a new weapon skin via Borderlands 4 Shift codes.
Following the Halloween event is the next major content release before the Mad Ellie story DLC, which will also unveil C4SH, the fifth Vault Hunter. Borderlands 4 Bounty Pack 1, titled ‘How Rush Saved Mercenary Day’, is set to launch on Thursday, November 20. This festive event arrives a bit ahead of the typical holiday season, but Gearbox has fully embraced the celebratory theme. Expect a “bite-size yet flavorful” narrative mission brimming with candy canes, presents, Christmas trees, sleigh bells, and the heroic Outbounders’ champion.
This bundle also introduces the inaugural Borderlands 4 Vault Card, functioning similarly to a battle pass, enhancing your loot and experience gains as you play. Rewards include four rerollable legendary weapons, four unique Vault Hunter heads and matching skins (perhaps a Santa Amon?), five weapon skins, five vehicle skins, four Echo-4 skins, and two Echo-4 attachments. Players will also unlock a new Digirunner vehicle early in the story, along with additional Vault Hunter and Echo-4 cosmetics upon completing the pack’s primary mission.
To close out 2025, a free December update will introduce the much-anticipated first Borderlands 4 Invincible boss. These formidable, raid-style adversaries, a fan-favorite from Borderlands 2, are designed to push your character builds to their absolute limits. Featuring colossal health pools, devastating attack power, and complex mechanics, these bosses demand strategic gameplay and a fresh approach to combat.
Given the already stellar lineup of Borderlands 4 bosses, I’m particularly excited to witness what Gearbox has prepared with Bloomreaper the Invincible. Defeating this behemoth promises a bounty of exquisite loot, including exclusive new legendaries. These powerful rewards will be crucial, as the December update also introduces an additional tier of Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, further escalating the difficulty across the entire game.
“We extend another heartfelt ‘thank you’ to the millions of players who have embarked on their Borderlands 4 adventures,” Gearbox stated. “Our journey with you badass Vault Hunters is only just beginning, and we promise a wealth of incredible paid and free content, alongside continuous performance improvements across all platforms.” Players should also be aware that some adjustments are expected this week to address “unintended interactions” that have proven particularly powerful.
