Warner Bros. Animation, DC, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment recently thrilled fans at New York Comic Con with a major announcement: the iconic early ’90s DC Comics saga, “Batman: Knightfall,” is officially being adapted into a multi-part animated film!
This exciting new movie, helmed by director Jeff Wamester and penned by writer Jeremy Adams, is already deep in production and is slated for a 2026 release. The official plot summary for the first installment, “Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall,” hints at intense action:
“Prepare yourself as the enigmatic and formidable Bane unleashes chaos, freeing Batman’s entire infamous Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum. This catastrophic event pushes the Caped Crusader to his absolute mental and physical limits.”

Bringing this epic tale to life behind the camera, Rick Morales is serving as Supervising Producer, with Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau as Producers. Lending their experience as Executive Producers for “Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall” are Sam Register and Michael Uslan.
The original “Batman: Knightfall” comic series, a cornerstone of Batman lore, was brought to life by a team of incredible talents including Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, Dennis O’Neil, Peter David, Jo Duffy, Jim Aparo, Graham Nolan, Norm Breyfogle, and Jim Balent.
While the “Batman: Knightfall” storyline secured the #15 spot on IGN’s list of the top 27 best Batman comics and graphic novels, the reception regarding its original execution was somewhat mixed, as noted:
“’Knightfall’ is a testament to how a powerful narrative can transcend minor imperfections in its artwork and writing, which were partly due to numerous creative team changes during its publication run. Fundamentally, the story brilliantly illustrates why Bruce Wayne’s unwavering morality solidifies his position as the ultimate Batman. By contrasting him with the lethal Azrael, it becomes abundantly clear that Bruce is uniquely the hero Gotham desperately requires.”
Fans may recall that aspects of the “Batman: Knightfall” storyline notably influenced Christopher Nolan’s film, “The Dark Knight Rises,” where Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Bane famously broke Batman’s back and seized control of Gotham City.
As of now, details regarding the animated movie’s voice cast and the highly anticipated first trailer for “Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall” are still under wraps. Stay tuned for more updates!
