The Indian film and fitness communities are deeply saddened by the news of Varinder Singh Ghuman’s passing. The professional bodybuilder and actor, known for his imposing presence and dedication to fitness, died on Thursday after suffering a heart attack. He was just 41 years old.
According to his manager, Yadvinder Singh, Ghuman had been experiencing shoulder pain and sought treatment at a private hospital in Amritsar. His nephew, Amanjot Singh Ghuman, confirmed to reporters in Jalandhar that the cardiac arrest occurred while he was at the hospital in the evening.
Varinder Ghuman shared the screen with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in the 2023 action-thriller Tiger-3. His acting credits also include the Hindi films Roar: Tigers of Sundarbans (2014) and Marjaavan (2019), as well as the Punjabi movie Kabaddi Once Again (2012). Standing at an impressive 6 feet 2 inches, Ghuman was a celebrated figure in bodybuilding, having clinched the Mr India title in 2009 and securing a commendable second place in the Mr Asia pageant.
Originally from Gurdaspur, Ghuman resided in Jalandhar, where he also owned and operated a gym. He was famously known as a “vegetarian bodybuilder,” a testament to his unique approach to fitness. His passion for a healthy lifestyle was evident through his regular workout videos shared on Instagram, inspiring many.
Beyond his accomplishments in entertainment and fitness, Ghuman had also expressed aspirations to venture into politics, aiming to contest the Punjab assembly polls in 2027. His sudden demise has led to an outpouring of condolences from politicians across various parties, highlighting the widespread respect he commanded.
