Magic: The Gathering delighted fans in June with a new Final Fantasy set, and Wizards of the Coast recently announced that it’s back for another round!
While this record-breaking expansion isn’t introducing entirely new card designs, Wizards is bringing fresh artwork through four distinct Scene Boxes (similar to those released for the Spider-Man set), alongside an exciting new Chocobo Bundle and a special Limit Break Commander Deck (Game Edition).
Unsurprisingly, these new products vanished quickly from initial stock, a common occurrence in today’s collectible card game market. Now, they’re beginning to appear on reputable resale platforms like TCGPlayer, though often with a rather significant price hike.
Before we explore what’s currently available from resellers, it’s important to clarify that we aren’t suggesting you spend hundreds or even thousands on these cards. There’s always a possibility of future printings, especially since the Final Fantasy set remains standard legal for some time. However, for those eager to secure these cards immediately and who have the budget, the resale market is an option.
If you prefer to wait for official restocks at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), that’s a completely understandable approach. We suggest keeping an eye on deal alerts, as updates on stock availability are usually shared promptly.
The Limit Break Game Edition Commander Deck
This updated version of the Limit Break Commander Deck features the familiar 100-card setup, but with an added bonus: a digital download code for the original Final Fantasy 7 on PC.
Is this bonus worth the current resale price of over $180? That’s a personal decision, but the nostalgic artwork on the box, featuring CGI Cloud gazing at Midgar, is certainly appealing. Important Note: This price represents an 80% markup, or an extra $80, compared to the original $99.99 retail price.
The Final Fantasy Chocobo Bundle
Let’s take a closer look at the Chocobo Bundle. While it appears to be a standard booster bundle, it stands out by including exclusive Chocobo foil lands.
Each bundle contains ten Play Boosters from the Final Fantasy set, a distinctive green and yellow Chocobo click wheel, 32 Final Fantasy landmark lands (split evenly between 16 foil and 16 non-foil), a special Universes Beyond promo card featuring Birds of Paradise reimagined as Paradise Chocobo, and two stunning borderless Chocobo track cards.
It’s easy to get carried away talking about Chocobos! This bundle also thoughtfully includes an additional non-foil card, which collectors might recognize from the Scene Boxes.
Currently, this bundle is listed on TCGPlayer with a market value of approximately $365, though this price is expected to decrease. Warning: This price is a massive 232% markup, or $255 over its original retail price of $109.99.
The Final Fantasy Scene Boxes
Scene Boxes, though not for everyone, offer a fantastic way to appreciate Magic’s incredible artwork. I’ve personally enjoyed collecting the Lord of the Rings and Spider-Man versions.
They perfectly highlight Magic’s stunning visuals, providing six art cards that fit neatly into a display frame. Plus, you also get playable versions of these cards, complete with text.
For this release, Wizards is presenting four unique Scene Boxes, each inspired by a different Final Fantasy game and carefully chosen to avoid overlap with any existing Commander Decks.
Expect to find these Scene Boxes priced around $100-$110 on reputable resale sites like TCGPlayer. This translates to a 138% markup, roughly $60-70 higher than the original $41.99 retail price. Each box includes a trio of Play Boosters, along with the following:
Final Fantasy – Garland at the Chaos Shrine
- Chaos Shrine’s Black Crystal
- Gardland, Royal Kidnapper
- The Destined Black Mage
- The Destined Thief
- The Destined Warrior
- The Destined White Mage
This particular Scene Box is currently selling for approximately $110 on the resale market.
Final Fantasy VIII – Children of Fate
- Duelist’s Flame
- Edea, Possessed Sorceress
- Fated Clash
- Rinoa, Angel Wing
- Seifer, Balamb Rival
- Squall, Gunblade Duelist
Similarly, this one is priced at just over $100.
Final Fantasy IX – The Siege of Alexandria
- Amarant Coral
- Brilliant Wings
- Judgement of Alexander
- Mega Flare
- Search for Dagger
- Vivi’s Persistence
At the time of writing, you can expect to find this box for about $110.
Final Fantasy XV – Camp Comrades
- Campsite Cuisine
- Chocobo Camp
- Fishing Gear
- Flash Photography
- Noctis, Heir Apparent
- Warrior’s Resolve
And finally, this Scene Box also retails for approximately $110.
