Once an undisputed titan in the world of first-person shooters, the Halo franchise has faced a challenging few years. Halo Infinite didn’t quite hit the mark, leaving many long-time fans feeling let down by its expansive yet often uninspired open world. While some might argue that the series’ multiplayer peak was Halo 3 – perhaps a touch of nostalgia speaking – it’s clear the franchise has struggled to recapture its former glory. And now, more unsettling news has emerged.
Ahead of a major studio announcement slated for later this month, two high-ranking staff members have departed Halo Studios. A well-known leaker in the community has further fueled speculation, indicating that the team might be grappling with significant leadership problems.
Glenn Israel, who dedicated 17 years to the Halo series and served as its art director for the last 15, is one of the individuals who recently left. His departure wasn’t a quiet one; he took to LinkedIn to post a message subtly hinting at studio tensions. He shared a cryptic promise to “share this particular story in its entirety when it is absolutely safe to do so next year.” For now, he offers guidance to fellow developers, urging them to recognize their value even when facing adversity.

In his powerful message, Israel wrote: “I know that the state of our industry seems dire. But never forget that you are *free to choose.* No illusion of security nor promise of wealth or fame or power is worth trading away your health, your dignity, your ethics or values – and no one can force you to. Stay strong, take evidence when necessary, and find where you belong.”
The exact circumstances behind Israel’s departure remain shrouded in mystery, but his words strongly suggest deep-seated dissatisfaction. It appears we’ll have to wait until next year to potentially hear the full story.
Israel’s exit follows closely on the heels of Melissa Boon, the game’s chief of staff, who also left the company last month. Two high-profile departures within such a short timeframe, especially right before a significant announcement and roughly a year after a major rebrand, typically signal that something is amiss within the studio.
Adding weight to these concerns, ‘Rebs,’ a prominent Halo leaker who previously hinted at a remake of the original game being in development, has confirmed reports of leadership troubles at the studio. He also revealed that out of the nine members originally credited on the art team for Halo Infinite, only one, art director Donnie Taylor, is still with the company.
