Discord, the popular communication platform widely used by gamers, has announced a potential data leak affecting around 70,000 of its users. The breach reportedly involves ID photos submitted by users to verify their age on the platform.
Discord clarified that their own platform was not directly compromised. Instead, the incident targeted a third-party service that assists with age verification for the platform’s user base. While user ID photos may have been exposed, Discord emphasized that full credit card details, passwords, and messages beyond customer service interactions were not part of the leak.
The company has stated that all affected users have been notified and that they are cooperating with law enforcement to investigate the matter. Access for the implicated third-party provider has been revoked. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges in safeguarding user data, particularly personal identification information, which is highly valued by cybercriminals.
