India is setting its sights far beyond current 5G technology, with an ambitious goal to secure 10% of global 6G patents. Simultaneously, the nation’s satellite communication sector is on the cusp of remarkable growth, projected to triple its market value by 2033. This forward-looking vision was shared by Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) on October 8, 2025.
During his address at IMC 2025, Minister Scindia highlighted India’s impressive transformation from a technology adopter to a prominent digital leader on the world stage.
Emphasizing India’s journey towards self-reliance, Mr. Scindia declared, “The day is not far off when people will say the world depends on India.” He passionately urged, “I appeal to all of you today, design here, solve here, scale for everywhere. India innovates, and the world transforms.”
The Minister elaborated on the expanding frontiers of satellite communications, stating, “Satellite communications today are expanding horizons, taking connectivity from land to sea to space.” He further predicted that India’s current $4 billion Satcom market, encompassing both telecom and broadcasting, would surge to nearly $15 billion by 2033. Scindia underscored the critical role of human capital, adding, “At the heart of this whole revolution lies our people. India is going to be the world’s largest digitally skilled force in the days to come.”
Reiterating India’s future-forward approach, Mr. Scindia stressed that the nation’s aspirations surpass 5G. He pointed out that the Bharat 6G Alliance is actively working towards securing a 10% share of global 6G patents, while simultaneously establishing the foundational standards for this next-generation technology.
Scindia highlighted a significant shift, asserting that India is now a “product nation,” moving beyond its traditional identity as primarily a service provider.
He attributed this progress to the Prime Minister’s vision and the success of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which has generated approximately ₹91,000 crore in new production, facilitated ₹18,000 crore in exports, and created 30,000 new employment opportunities.
