In a cheeky move from Activision, Black Ops 6 is free-to-play for a whole week, right ahead of Battlefield 6’s launch

Activision is shaking things up by offering a generous week-long free trial for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. While free trials for Call of Duty aren’t new, this one stands out. For the first time, players can dive into nearly the entire game for free, enjoying a wide array of multiplayer maps and modes, joining the special spooky season event, exploring all six Zombies maps, and even playing through the full campaign. This massive trial kicks off on October 9, strategically coinciding with the launch weekend of its direct competitor, Battlefield 6.

The gaming world is buzzing with the impending clash between Battlefield 6 and the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Both major FPS franchises have already showcased their strengths in open betas. While EA prepares to launch Battlefield 6 in a matter of days, with the Black Ops 7 release date following closely next month, Activision appears to be making a bold move. This exceptionally generous free trial for Black Ops 6, although aligned with the game’s final season drop, seems perfectly timed to capture attention right before Battlefield’s big moment.

During this week-long free trial, players will enjoy access to ten of Black Ops 6’s exhilarating multiplayer modes (Ranked Play is excluded) across over 40 diverse maps. While it might not represent the pinnacle of the series’ multiplayer history, many agree that Black Ops 6 delivers the most consistent and fun experience since the advent of the ‘Warzone era’ in 2019. For those who missed the Black Ops 7 beta, this trial offers a fantastic opportunity to get a feel for the upcoming title, as it shares many similarities, albeit with some distinct features like the new wall jump movement mechanic.

Adding to the excitement, the free trial conveniently overlaps with ‘The Haunting,’ Call of Duty’s eagerly anticipated annual Halloween event. This means players can enjoy all the new, spooky maps and modes introduced for the event throughout the trial’s duration.

What makes this trial truly exceptional is the full unlock of both the entire Zombies catalog and the game’s campaign. Despite a few maps being less impactful, Black Ops 6’s Zombies experience this year has been largely praised, offering a feast for long-time fans. With six round-based maps available, and a ‘Directed Mode’ providing guidance for new or casual players on objectives and mechanics, it’s an incredible opportunity. If you’re seeking a thrilling co-op shooter experience with friends this weekend without any cost, these six free Zombies maps are an undeniable draw.

The single-player campaign mirrors the multiplayer’s quality: while perhaps not an all-time classic, it stands as the strongest narrative experience since 2019. Prepare for one of the most unique, surprising, and ‘trippy’ Call of Duty campaigns you’ve ever encountered, definitely worth exploring if you have the time.

Mark your calendars: The Black Ops 6 free trial runs from Thursday, October 9, to Thursday, October 16.

For those planning to jump into the free trial, plenty of resources are available to help you conquer the campaign, master Zombies, and excel in multiplayer. Discover all the Black Ops 6 Zombies easter eggs for hidden secrets, or consult guides to understand the Black Ops 6 multiplayer meta.

Are you feeling tempted by this extensive free trial? Or will Battlefield 6, or perhaps another game entirely, be the focus of your gaming weekend? We’d love to hear your plans!
