Get ready for an interstellar adventure! Supergirl, previously known as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, is slated to hit cinemas on June 26, 2026. This film will reintroduce audiences to Milly Alcock’s (House of the Dragon) Kara Zor-El, who made a memorable first impression in the recently released Superman movie.
Inspired by Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s acclaimed 2021-2022 comic book series, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, this movie promises to be a unique ‘space fantasy’ with a distinct tone compared to Superman. While many details are still under wraps, we’re excited to reveal the growing list of talented actors and iconic characters who will be joining Kara on her cinematic journey. Let’s dive into all the confirmed announcements so far!
Milly Alcock Soars as Supergirl / Kara Zor-El
Milly Alcock is set to embody Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has teased that this iteration of Superman’s cousin will be a “total mess.”
Gunn further elaborated, explaining that Kara’s backstory diverges significantly from her cousin Clark Kent’s. While Superman enjoyed a loving and healthy upbringing, Supergirl’s early life was “much more difficult,” shaping her into a very different kind of hero.
Her harrowing origin involves being stranded on a fragment of Krypton for 14 years, witnessing unimaginable loss. This experience, according to Gunn, makes her a “much harsher and more complex Supergirl than audiences have encountered before.”
For comic book enthusiasts, Supergirl made her debut in Action Comics #252 back in May 1959.
The Return of Krypto!
Expect more delightful chaos from Krypto! As hinted in Superman, Krypto is actually Supergirl’s loyal canine companion, with Superman merely dog-sitting during her cosmic escapades. Kal-El charmingly revealed that Kara enjoys “partying on other planets” with red suns, a clever nod to Kryptonian physiology and why they can’t get drunk under a yellow sun.
These revelations shed light on Krypto’s unique personality and actions, and we’re sure to uncover more about this fantastic space-dog in Supergirl’s upcoming film.
Krypto’s first comic appearance dates back to Adventure Comics #210 in March 1955.
Jason Momoa Transforms into Lobo
Following his tenure as Aquaman in the DCEU, Jason Momoa is officially making the jump to the new DCU, this time as the formidable Lobo in Supergirl. Momoa has often expressed his love for the character, calling it his “perfect role,” and now fans will finally see his dream come to life on the big screen.
The Main Man, Lobo, is a notoriously powerful interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, known for his superhuman strength and immortality. He made his comic debut in Omega Men #3 in June 1983.

Reports indicate that Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone) will take on the role of Krem of the Yellow Hills, the primary antagonist from King and Evely’s Supergirl comic series. Krem’s pivotal actions in the source material could very well be the catalyst that propels Supergirl into her cinematic adventure.

Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem) has been cast as Ruthye Marye Knoll. In the comics, Ruthye is depicted as a noble and honorable warrior whose quest for justice ultimately draws Supergirl into a major conflict. Whether this storyline will be directly adapted for the film remains to be seen, but her role is expected to be significant.
David Krumholtz as Zor-El

Oppenheimer’s David Krumholtz is set to join the cast as Kara Zor-El’s father, Zor-El, ensuring that Supergirl will be a true family affair.
Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze

Emily Beecham, known for her role in 1899, will portray Supergirl’s mother, Alura In-Ze. Considering Kara’s lively personality hinted at in the Superman post-credits scene, it seems Alura and Zor-El might have their hands full!
Will Superman Make an Appearance?
Although not officially confirmed, a cameo from David Corenswet’s Superman in Supergirl would be a logical and exciting development. There’s still much to explore regarding their cousinly bond and Krypton’s intricate history, so a visit from the Man of Steel could certainly be on the horizon!
