The Chadian government has officially severed ties with African Parks, a conservation organization with which Prince Harry is associated as a board member. The decision follows allegations that the charity failed to adequately protect wildlife and curb poaching within the two national reserves it managed in Chad – the Ennedi Natural and Cultural Reserve and the Greater Zakouma Ecosystem.
The Chadian Ministry of Environment cited an “arrogant and disrespectful” approach from African Parks towards the government, along with a perceived lack of full cooperation. These concerns were formally communicated to the non-profit organization through an official letter from Environment Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous.
African Parks, founded in 2000, manages numerous protected areas across Africa with the aim of fostering long-term ecological, social, and financial sustainability. Prince Harry has been involved with the organization since 2016, serving as president before becoming a board director in 2023.
This development marks another challenge for Prince Harry’s charitable initiatives, coming shortly after his departure from Sentebale, a charity he co-founded to support children affected by HIV/AIDS.
