Soha Ali Khan recently shed light on the significant backlash her brother, Saif Ali Khan, and sister-in-law, Kareena Kapoor Khan, encountered during their marriage. In a candid conversation, Soha revealed that the couple faced severe criticism, including death threats and threats against their families, upon announcing their union.
Despite the hostility, Saif and Kareena remained steadfast in their decision, proceeding with a private wedding ceremony in October 2012. Soha noted that their resilience helped mitigate the intensity of criticism she received during her own interfaith marriage with Kunal Kemmu.
Reflecting on the hurtful rhetoric surrounding Saif and Kareena’s wedding, Soha recalled slogans like ‘You took one of ours, now we’ll take one of yours,’ and terms such as ‘Love Jihad’ and ‘Ghar Wapsi’ that dominated headlines. She emphasized that as long as her loved ones were supportive, she chose not to let external negativity affect her.
Saif Ali Khan had previously shared in an interview that Kareena’s father, Randhir Kapoor, had received anonymous letters threatening their families and the wedding venue. Saif drew strength from his parents, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore, who also faced public opposition during their interfaith marriage in the 1960s. Their experience, Saif stated, reinforced his belief that threats are often just words.
Regarding her own career, Soha Ali Khan was last seen in the horror film ‘Chhorii 2,’ where she portrayed an antagonist. She has also ventured into digital media with her podcast, ‘All About Her,’ which delves into conversations with women experts on various topics, including wellness and work-life balance.
