Fans eager for Yacht Club Games’ next big adventure, Mina the Hollower, will need to wait a little longer. The studio, renowned for the indie sensation Shovel Knight, has confirmed that their new title will miss its initial Halloween release date. Although the team describes this as a short delay, they are holding off on announcing a new launch date until the game is fully submitted across all platforms.
In a recent update on their official website, the developers shared their decision: “This week, our team made a tough decision: we decided to delay Mina the Hollower.” The statement continued, “The entire crew has been working tirelessly day and night to finish development for release on October 31, but we’re just not quite there yet. This isn’t a major delay, it’s just a stretch of time to apply some final polish and balancing to make the game truly shine.”
The studio is currently channeling its efforts into refining the game’s design, art, and sound, as well as meticulous game balancing, localization, and comprehensive testing. They humorously added ‘And eating cheese’ to their list of ongoing tasks, assuring players that their primary goal is to “make sure our development team has the time and resources to deliver an incredible adventure.”
Mina the Hollower marks Yacht Club Games’ first entirely new franchise since Shovel Knight became a massive hit in 2014. Since then, the studio has been actively expanding the Shovel Knight universe with various DLC campaigns and spin-off titles, including Shovel Knight Showdown and Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon.
Drawing inspiration from classic top-down Zelda games, Mina the Hollower boasts a charming art style reminiscent of that era’s distinctive color palette. Players will step into the shoes of a small mouse protagonist in an animal-filled kingdom. True to her name, Mina possesses the unique ability to burrow underground, which she uses to solve clever puzzles and spring surprises on her foes.
