Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar, known for launching numerous stars, recently shared an unexpected perspective on his children’s future careers. In a candid conversation on Komal Nahta’s YouTube show, ‘Game Changers’, Johar revealed that he doesn’t envision his children, Yash and Roohi, stepping into the acting arena. Instead, he humorously suggested that they might find more success and financial stability as makeup and hair artists.
Johar elaborated on his reasoning, highlighting the significant earnings potential in these behind-the-scenes roles. “Don’t even get me started on the charges the makeup and hair artists take today,” he quipped. “In fact, I would want Roohi and Yash to become makeup and hair artists because they are earning more money than other people. Ek hair kare aur dusra make up (one should do the hair and the other should do makeup), it will be very beneficial for both of them.”
Beyond his children’s careers, Johar also touched upon the often-discussed topic of star entourages. He clarified that his concern isn’t primarily financial but rather ethical, questioning the necessity of large teams accompanying actors. “If you are doing a sports biopic or biographical drama where your body is on display all the time on screen, then the producer will pay for it,” he explained. “But if you are a regular hero, your job is to look good. If you want to eat healthy food, you eat, but why would I pay for it? … If you are getting a big fees and backend then do these on your own, show some grace. 6-8 log kyun karte hain travel aapke saath (why do you need 6-8 people to travel with you)?”
Karan Johar, who became a single parent to twins Yash and Roohi via surrogacy in 2017, has been candid about his experiences as a dad. He frequently shares amusing anecdotes and videos of his children, who are known for their playful interactions with him, including hilariously calling him out on his social media habits and even trolling his fashion choices.
