Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first automobile manufacturer in the nation to successfully transport vehicles to the breathtaking Kashmir Valley through the extensive network of Indian Railways. The company proudly announced the successful arrival of its inaugural rail shipment at the newly established Anantnag terminal on Friday, October 3, 2025.
This groundbreaking consignment, featuring a diverse range of over 100 Maruti Suzuki models including the popular Brezza, Dzire, WagonR, and S-Presso, commenced its journey from the firm’s recently commissioned Manesar in-plant railway siding. The train traversed an impressive distance of more than 850 kilometers, a route that notably included a majestic crossing over the world’s highest railway arch bridge, spanning the Chenab river.
The monumental Chenab bridge, an essential component of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, was officially opened earlier this year. Its completion is poised to dramatically enhance connectivity and significantly boost logistics efficiency across the entire region, paving the way for easier transport and trade.
Highlighting the profound impact of rail transport on both the economy and the lives of people, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, the esteemed Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, remarked, “Previously, the Jammu & Kashmir rail link facilitated the transportation of apples from the valley. Now, with Maruti Suzuki cars joining the freight, this railway line is truly transforming the landscape for the residents of Jammu & Kashmir, acting as a genuine game-changer.”
Commenting on this pivotal partnership, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, stated, “Railway dispatches are fundamental to our overall logistics strategy. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Honorable Prime Minister, whose visionary leadership has enabled transformative infrastructure projects across the nation. The world’s highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab river stands as a remarkable landmark, providing seamless and highly efficient connectivity to the Kashmir valley and empowering Maruti Suzuki to better cater to our valued customers in this vital region.”
