In a candid conversation, acclaimed actress Rani Mukerji revealed her parenting philosophy regarding her daughter, Adira, whom she shares with filmmaker husband Aditya Chopra. Mukerji expressed that she and Chopra are committed to ensuring Adira has a normal upbringing, shielded from the excessive media attention often associated with celebrity children.
“We have the same philosophy for our daughter as well,” Mukerji stated. “We did not want her to ever be in a situation where she is overexposed. That she should feel there is anything special going on with her.”
She further elaborated on the importance of earned recognition, explaining, “Because when she grows up, when she chooses a profession that she needs to choose, then whatever she earns, the recognition will be earned through her merit. She doesn’t earn the recognition because she has famous parents. She should earn that herself; it should not come to her as taken for granted.”
Mukerji noted that Adira, like her father Aditya Chopra, values privacy and has a strong sense of self, which she believes will serve her well as she grows.
Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra married in 2014 and welcomed their daughter Adira in 2015. The actress recently received her first National Award for Best Actress for her powerful performance in ‘Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway’. Interestingly, she revealed that Adira had expressed her feelings of unfairness at not being able to attend the award ceremony with her mother.
