Calling all fans of Paul Thomas Anderson and Thomas Pynchon! The opportunity to preorder ‘One Battle After Another’ on 4K Blu-ray is officially open. This action-packed thriller, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, recently hit theaters, so while the physical editions won’t arrive for a few months, early ordering is highly recommended for collectors. The Limited Edition Steelbook is available for $38, and a standard 4K Blu-ray edition for $30.
The 4K Blu-ray editions of ‘One Battle After Another’ boast HDR10 support and dual Dolby surround sound modes: Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD 7.1. While specific special features and official artwork for all four upcoming editions (Limited Edition Steelbook, standard 4K Blu-ray, 1080p Blu-ray, and DVD) are still under wraps, expect the Steelbook artwork to be revealed soon. The theatrical poster might even grace the cover of the standard editions. The Steelbook includes both a standard Blu-ray disc and a digital copy, while the regular 4K Blu-ray and standard Blu-ray editions also come with a digital copy.
Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring an impressive ensemble including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Chase Infiniti, and Teyana Taylor, ‘One Battle After Another’ is already shaping up as a strong contender for next year’s major awards. This 162-minute action thriller, laced with dark comedy, has garnered a high critical rating. DiCaprio portrays Bob Ferguson/Pat Calhoun, a former revolutionary perpetually clouded by paranoia due to substance use, who embarks on a mission to rescue his daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti), from his sworn enemy, Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw (Sean Penn).
‘One Battle After Another’ is inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel ‘Vineland’. While it adapts the basic premise and some plot points, it’s not a direct adaptation. Anderson previously adapted Pynchon’s 2009 novel ‘Inherent Vice’ more faithfully. Interestingly, ‘Inherent Vice’ is currently only available on Blu-ray. Pynchon, a famously reclusive literary giant, is also releasing a new novel, ‘Shadow Ticket’, on October 7, his first since 2013’s ‘Bleeding Edge’.
