The beloved romance drama Kushi, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary in May, is making a triumphant return to the silver screen. Directed by SJ Suryah and featuring the dynamic pair Vijay and Jyothika, the film is scheduled for a grand re-release in theaters on September 25.
Sakthi Film Factory, the distribution company, officially announced on Monday (September 15) their collaboration with AM Rathnam to bring this classic back to theaters. This isn’t their first successful venture, as Sakthi Film Factory previously re-released Rathnam’s 2004 blockbuster, Ghilli, which became one of Tamil cinema’s most lucrative re-releases.
Sakthi Film Factory expressed their excitement on social media, stating their pride in partnering with Producer AM Rathnam and ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay. They invited audiences to prepare for theaters to transform into “concert halls,” promising the return of the “timeless magic of Kushi.”
Kushi tells the charming story of two college students, Shiva (played by Vijay) and Jenny (played by Jyothika), whose initially contentious friendship slowly evolves into a deep romance. This movie is widely celebrated as one of the standout Tamil romantic comedies of the early 2000s, notably for its iconic soundtrack composed by Deva, which continues to resonate with fans.
Beyond the lead pair, the film boasts a talented supporting cast including Vivekh, Mumtaj, Vijayakumar, and Nizhalgal Ravi. The cinematography was expertly handled by the late director Jeeva, with B Lenin and VT Vijayan overseeing the film’s editing.
