Good news for fans of classic Call of Duty battle royale: Warzone has announced a “bold new experience” slated for Spring 2026. This upcoming update is directly inspired by Black Ops 4’s iconic Blackout mode.
The Call of Duty team shared a teaser on X (formerly Twitter), featuring an image of players descending into a map and stating, “Approaching the drop zone… Call of Duty: Warzone is bringing a bold new experience in Spring of 2026 inspired by the original Blackout, set on Avalon.”
Blackout, which launched alongside Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, was highly praised for its responsive gunplay, fluid movement, and inventive yet practical equipment. Our 2018 review noted how perfectly these elements fit into the popular last-man-standing format. Although Warzone eventually took over as the franchise’s primary battle royale, and was updated again in 2022, many players still hold a special place for the original Blackout mode, as evidenced by the massive positive reaction to the recent teaser.
While Activision hasn’t fully detailed what this “experience” entails, they did offer a glimpse of what’s coming to Call of Duty: Warzone:
- Bold New Blackout Experience on Avalon
- Rebirth Island Refresh
- Verdansk Updates
- Ranked Play
- And MORE!
Players are encouraged to stay tuned for additional information, as more free content updates are planned throughout the next year.
Separately, the next main installment, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, is scheduled for release on November 14, 2025, across PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. An open beta will run from October 5-8, with early access for pre-order customers from October 2–5.
PC gamers should note a recent warning from Activision: to play the Black Ops 7 beta and the full game at launch, enabling TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot will be mandatory. This requirement, similar to those for other major shooters like Battlefield 6, is part of robust anti-cheat measures designed to prevent modified hardware and unauthorized software.
