Fans of historical drama and fantasy rejoice! An official announcement has confirmed that Rinne Ishida and Izumi’s popular light novel series, “Matsurika Kanriden,” is officially in production for a TV anime adaptation. The exciting news was shared today via a newly opened dedicated X (formerly Twitter) account for the project.
While the announcement has created a buzz, specific details such as the staff, voice cast, and anticipated release date are yet to be revealed. We’ll be keeping a close eye out for more information as production progresses.
To celebrate this highly anticipated adaptation, commemorative illustrations were generously provided by Izumi, the original light novel artist, and Waka Takase, the talented artist behind the manga adaptation. These beautiful artworks offer a glimpse into the world we can expect to see animated.
The “Matsurika Kanriden,” which translates to “The Tale of Matsurika the Civil Servant,” light novel series has been a hit since its debut in July 2017 under Kadokawa’s B’s-LOG Bunko label, with seventeen volumes published to date. The manga adaptation, illustrated by Waka Takase, began its serialization in Monthly Princess magazine in August 2018.
For those unfamiliar with the story, “Matsurika Kanriden” follows the extraordinary journey of a commoner who, armed with an exceptional memory and a serendipitous romantic encounter with the Emperor, rapidly ascends through the intricate ranks of the Inner Palace. A 2022 promotional video for the manga adaptation previously featured Rie Takahashi lending her voice to Matsurika and Nobunaga Shimazaki as Hakuyo, hinting at the potential caliber of talent for the upcoming anime.
