Nobody enjoys waiting, particularly when there’s nothing engaging to do. The creators of Peak, Landfall Games, recognized this perfectly when they rolled out the latest ‘DillyDally’ update. This exciting patch introduces a variety of fun activities to the game’s airport lobbies, designed to keep players entertained while they await their friends. These new additions include a basketball hoop, a photo booth, and, most notably, chess pieces.
As soon as the update went live, players gravitated towards the chess pieces. However, instead of engaging in traditional chess matches, they found a much more unconventional use for them.
One player, posting on the Peak subreddit, shared their hilarious ingenuity: ‘My friend and I got bored after we finished a climb,’ they wrote. ‘We used all the chess pieces and, bing bong, now there’s a queen and a few pawns perched high above the rafters!’
Following the update’s release last week, social media exploded with images and videos of airport lobbies transformed into towers of precariously stacked chess pieces. It seems Peak’s unique physics system, usually responsible for amusing mishaps during mountain climbs, proved to be ideal for these creative, impromptu building challenges among players.
The game’s lobbies are uniquely designed as airport waiting areas, where your adventure comically begins with a loading-screen plane crash before you and your friends embark on a quest to conquer a procedurally generated mountain. Given the often-challenging nature of these climbs, it’s perfectly understandable that players would want to blow off some steam and have a little fun while waiting at the terminal.
Since its wildly successful launch in June, Landfall Games and publisher Aggro Crab have consistently delivered new content. For instance, the ‘Mesa’ biome, featuring dangerous tornadoes, intense heat, and menacing scorpions, was introduced in August. Players are also eagerly awaiting another teased biome, though specific details remain under wraps.
