In a deeply emotional display of spiritual devotion, a 65-year-old man has taken Jain Diksha, bidding farewell to his worldly life, family, and all material possessions. The poignant moment was documented in a video shared by his son, Lokesh Jain, on Instagram. The video, which has touched hearts online, features Lokesh narrating his father’s transformative journey.
Lokesh shares the profound significance of this life-altering decision, explaining, “This is my father. He is 65, and today he is leaving us forever. From now on, he will never call me his son and I will no longer call him Papa in the way I always have. After today, he will no longer live with our family. He will never wear shoes again, never shave, never get a haircut or enjoy a proper bath.” He further adds, “He will no longer wear nice clothes, or ride any vehicle. Today is the last time he will receive anything worldly. He will never again taste his favourite food or purchase anything, as he will never touch money again. Because today, he is taking diksha, becoming a Jain monk.”
The ceremony, attended by approximately three thousand people, was described by Lokesh as a profound spiritual event. He expressed mixed emotions of pride and sorrow as he witnessed his father’s transition from a worldly life to one of spiritual renunciation. The video highlights the deep respect and admiration people had for his father, with many wanting to capture a moment with him.
While celebrating his father’s commitment to Jainism, particularly its core principle of ‘Ahimsa Parmo Dharma’ (non-violence is the highest virtue), Lokesh also raised a thought-provoking point. He observed a contradiction within the ceremony itself, noting that while the event promoted non-violence, the food served incorporated dairy products. Lokesh questioned the practice, stating, “Lord Mahavira showed the world the path of compassion. How can we truly walk on his path while taking away what rightfully belongs to a calf?”
This reflection led Lokesh to advocate for a vegan lifestyle, encouraging Jains and all followers of non-violence to embrace it as a more consistent and compassionate way to honor all living beings. The video has resonated widely, garnering significant views and comments from viewers who praised the father’s decision and Lokesh’s honest observations, particularly his message about veganism.
