In a move that blended campaigning with connecting with the city’s nightlife, Zohran Mamdani, a leading contender in the New York City mayoral race, embarked on a bar crawl across Brooklyn on Saturday night. The 34-year-old politician visited a total of six different clubs as part of his strategy to engage with voters.
Mamdani’s bar hopping tour included stops at Gabriela, Caribbean Social Club, Damballa, Mood Ring, Papi Juice, and concluded at 100 Sutton. At Damballa NYC, he was observed dancing and singing along with the patrons.
A notable moment from the evening was Mamdani’s unscheduled visit to a gay bar in Brooklyn. There, he addressed the attendees directly, energizing them with his campaign message: “Are we ready to beat Andrew Cuomo? Are we ready to win a city we can afford? Are we ready to make history?” he asked, before urging them to go out and vote. Videos of the appearance circulated online, with one caption noting, “So it’s 1am and Zohran just showed up at the gay bar.”
Mamdani, known for his highly visible campaign presence, was also seen campaigning on Sunday morning at the New York City marathon in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint, showcasing his commitment despite the late Saturday night.
This active campaigning schedule comes just days before the crucial November 4 election. Mamdani’s primary opponent is Andrew Cuomo, the former Democratic Governor who is running as an independent after a previous primary loss. Curtis Sliwa of the Republican party is also a contender in the mayoral race.
