U.S. forces have carried out strikes targeting four suspected drug boats in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of 14 individuals. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that one survivor was rescued by Mexican authorities. This incident marks an escalation in the U.S. campaign against drug traffickers, with similar strikes occurring in the Pacific and Caribbean.
The latest strikes in the eastern Pacific, which took place on Monday and were directed by President Donald Trump, have intensified tensions between the U.S. and the governments of Colombia and Venezuela. To date, at least 51 people have been killed in these operations.
In a statement released on X, Secretary Hegseth explained that the targeted vessels were identified by U.S. intelligence as known to be involved in drug trafficking. He reported that the initial strike killed eight “narco-terrorists,” with subsequent strikes resulting in four and three fatalities, respectively.
