Fans eager for the next installment in the Cyberpunk universe are in for a treat! New information about Cyberpunk 2, one of several projects currently in development at CD Projekt Red, has recently surfaced. Series creator Mike Pondsmith revealed that the upcoming sequel will introduce a completely fresh urban landscape, which he strikingly described as ‘like Chicago gone wrong.’
During a recent REDstreams broadcast, Pondsmith shared his experience visiting the development team and seeing the early progress on this new city. He confirmed that while the iconic Night City from Cyberpunk 2077 will still be a part of the game, players will also explore this new, distinct location. Pondsmith recounted his reaction, saying, ‘I remember looking at it and going, yeah I understand the feel you’re going for this, and this really does work. And it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong. I said, ‘Yeah, I can see this working.’’
Could Keanu Reeves Make a Comeback?
Another hot topic Pondsmith addressed was the possibility of Keanu Reeves reprising his role as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2. Pondsmith noted that he’d seen reports of Reeves’ willingness to return and playfully extended an invitation: ‘I saw that Keanu would like to find a way to come back from the dead and play Johnny again. I have ways to do that, Keanu. Contact me,’ he quipped.
For those unfamiliar, Johnny Silverhand is a former rockstar who appears in Cyberpunk 2077 as a digital engram, surviving long after his physical death. The character’s ultimate fate in Cyberpunk 2077 varies based on player choices and the game’s ending. While his return in Cyberpunk 2 seems plausible given the lore and Reeves’ interest, it’s important to remember that many factors would need to align for this to become a reality.
Beyond Cyberpunk 2, CD Projekt Red is also busy with other major titles. The studio is actively developing The Witcher 4 and is collaborating with Fool’s Theory to produce a remake of the original Witcher game.
