A shocking incident at Meelavittan railway station this past Sunday resulted in the tragic death of a teenager and serious injuries to two of his companions. The group was reportedly attempting to film social media reels atop a stationary train engine when disaster struck.
The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old N. Arun from Anna Nagar. He was joined by S. Kavin, 15, and Harish, 17, both residents of Rajagopal Nagar. On Sunday evening, their pursuit of viral content led them to climb onto the train engine to capture a video.
During their ill-fated endeavor, the teenagers came into direct contact with high-voltage overhead electric wires. Arun suffered immediate electrocution and died on the spot. Kavin and Harish sustained severe burn injuries and were immediately rushed to the Thoothukudi Government Medical College and Hospital, where they are currently receiving intensive medical care.
Railway police have initiated an inquiry into the tragic event, and further investigations are underway. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the extreme dangers associated with reckless stunts for social media attention, especially involving hazardous environments like active railway lines.
