A planned weekend getaway to Lonavala took a devastating turn for a 20-year-old man when he tragically passed away following a motorcycle accident. The incident occurred on the old Mumbai-Pune Highway near Warvai village, as the rider attempted to evade a stray dog that had unexpectedly entered the road.

The deceased, a resident of Gopalnagar in Worli, was riding a Triumph Speed 400 motorcycle as part of a group that included his cousin and five other riders. According to police reports and statements from the rider’s cousin, the accident happened around 7 am on Sunday. A stray dog suddenly darted onto the highway in front of the motorcyclist near Warvai village. In a bid to prevent hitting the animal, the rider applied his brakes abruptly. This sudden action caused the powerful motorcycle to lose control, skidding violently and sliding off the road.
The impact of the crash resulted in severe internal injuries. The rider was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, as confirmed by the investigating officer.
Authorities from the Panvel taluka police station have registered a case of accidental death. The investigation is proceeding under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including those pertaining to rash driving and death by negligence, as well as dangerous driving under the Motor Vehicles Act. Preliminary findings indicate no external collision or interference from another vehicle; the loss of control appears to have been solely due to the rider’s attempt to avoid the stray dog.
