In a heartbreaking turn of events, three young medical students hailing from Bengaluru, Karnataka, have tragically lost their lives. The students were swimming off Payyambalam Beach in Kannur, Kerala, when they were caught by powerful waves and pulled out to sea. The incident took place on Sunday morning.
According to preliminary reports from police officials investigating the matter, the deceased have been identified as Afnan, Rahanuddeen, and Afras. All three were medical students pursuing their studies and were residents of Bengaluru. The unfortunate incident occurred around 11 am as a group of eight students ventured into the water for a swim.
Authorities have stated that while the group of eight entered the water together, three of them were overpoweringly swept away by the strong currents. Lifeguards and local residents quickly responded to the emergency, managing to pull the students back to shore. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, but regrettably, medical efforts to revive them were unsuccessful.
The bodies of the students have been sent for post-mortem examinations, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The surviving students are reported to be safe but are understandably deeply affected by the incident.
The drowning at the popular Payyambalam Beach serves as a somber reminder of the inherent dangers associated with swimming in unfamiliar waters, especially when strong currents are present.
