In a significant political move, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister M.K. Stalin spearheaded a multi-party meeting that concluded with a unanimous decision to petition the Supreme Court. The subject of their challenge is the Election Commission’s ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR) of voter rolls across the state.
The coalition of parties vehemently passed a resolution, labeling the EC’s revision exercise as fundamentally anti-democratic. They argue that the process flagrantly disregards established legal procedures and raises serious concerns that its underlying intention is to unfairly remove genuine voters from the electoral lists.
Consequently, the parties have collectively urged the Election Commission to immediately suspend the ongoing revision process. They insist on a halt until the Supreme Court delivers its judgment on the matter. Furthermore, they have called for a commitment to a transparent and equitable voter revision process, specifically requesting it be conducted only after the conclusion of the 2026 Assembly elections.
