G.K. Vasan, president of the Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar), declared on Monday that Tamil Nadu’s law and order situation is “critical.” He accused the DMK government of failing to effectively combat various crimes, including murder, robbery, theft, and the widespread distribution of illegal narcotics.
Speaking to reporters at Tiruchi airport, Mr. Vasan specifically cited the disturbing alleged gang rape of a college student in Coimbatore as an incident that has significantly heightened public fears about women’s safety across the state.
According to Mr. Vasan, the root cause of these escalating crimes is the rampant availability of narcotic substances. He expressed grave concern, stating that the current DMK government appears to be a “mute spectator” to this troubling trend.
Vasan claimed that the public’s sentiment towards the DMK government has soured, attributing this to its “anti-people” policies and a perceived failure to deliver on promises made during the 2021 assembly elections.
He further asserted that a strong wave of anti-incumbency is building, with citizens believing it’s time for a change in leadership. This growing dissatisfaction, he suggested, presents a significant opportunity for the AIADMK-BJP alliance in Tamil Nadu to garner votes.
