With a total of 10 points from six matches, South Africa now holds a temporary lead over Australia and England, both of whom have 9 points and are set to compete against each other on Wednesday in Indore.
The game was initially reduced to 40 overs per side due to prior delays caused by rain. In their innings, South Africa posted a formidable score of 312 for 9, largely thanks to Laura Wolvaardt’s superb 90 runs, along with significant contributions of 61 from Sune Luus and 68 from Marizanne Kapp.
Further rain interruptions forced a revised DLS (Duckworth-Lewis-Stern) target for Pakistan, setting them 234 runs to chase in just 20 overs. Pakistan’s batting lineup failed to cope with the pressure, collapsing to a mere 83 for seven.
Pakistan’s chase began disastrously, finding themselves at a precarious 35 for 4 by the tenth over before the skies opened up again.
Marizanne Kapp, who had already played a crucial role with her 68 runs earlier in the match, proved equally impactful with the ball, dismantling Pakistan’s top order by claiming three of the four early wickets.
Following the extended rain delay, South Africa comfortably secured their well-deserved two points, affirming their strong position in the tournament.
Laura Wolvaardt was the cornerstone of South Africa’s innings, smashing 90 runs off just 82 balls, an innings studded with 10 fours and two sixes. She built a vital 118-run partnership for the second wicket with Sune Luus.
Kapp’s aggressive 68-run innings also featured a crucial 60-run stand with Wolvaardt for the fourth wicket, ensuring a high total.
Pakistan’s captain, Fatima Sana, endured a tough day with her bowling, conceding 69 runs in eight overs. Spinner Sadia Iqbal also faced aggressive hitting, while Diana Baig gave away 49 runs in five overs.
Nadine de Klerk continued her impressive form as a finisher in the tournament, contributing a rapid 41 runs off an astonishing 16 balls.
De Klerk’s electrifying innings included three fours and four sixes, with memorable hits over long-off against Iqbal and two powerful boundaries against Fatima.
Kapp further amplified South Africa’s commanding performance, hitting Sadia Iqbal’s delivery over midwicket and striking another six off Fatima over square leg.
