In a significant move to safeguard and promote Andhra Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage, the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), New Delhi, has committed to the comprehensive development of the exquisite Kondapalli toys, local handicrafts, and the historic Kondapalli Fort. During a recent meeting in Vijayawada, SPA officials engaged with NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha to strategize on initiatives aimed at revitalizing these precious, and in some cases, fading, traditions.
Collector Lakshmisha emphasized the national recognition of Kondapalli toys and underscored the critical need for robust support and encouragement for the artisans. He extended a heartfelt invitation to the SPA management, urging them to partner in promoting the distinct ‘Kondapalli’ brand on a larger scale.
Responding positively, SPA officials assured that they would present these crucial discussions to the institute’s Director and other key stakeholders. They also confirmed SPA’s readiness to assist in establishing a dedicated Kondapalli Toys Experience Centre. The Collector highlighted the urgency of preserving Kondapalli’s unique art form and ensuring its transmission to future generations. He detailed ongoing efforts to secure raw materials and create sustainable market avenues for the renowned toys.
Looking ahead, the government envisions transforming Kondapalli into a thriving model village and a prominent tourist destination. This ambitious plan includes providing comprehensive financial and market support to artisans and enhancing the fort’s aesthetic appeal, all with the invaluable expertise and collaboration of SPA.
