In a truly inspiring display of medical expertise, doctors at KIMS Hospital in Kurnool recently undertook a challenging surgical procedure on a 25-year-old woman from Bethamcherla. She had been enduring significant complications following a hysterectomy, an operation she underwent to address issues caused by fibroids.
Initially, the woman suffered from heavy menstrual bleeding due to fibroids, which led to the recommendation for a hysterectomy. However, after the procedure, her condition took a distressing turn. She began experiencing continuous urine leakage, leading to profound physical discomfort, emotional distress, and an unpleasant odor.
After two months of persistent suffering, she sought specialized care at the Urology Department of KIMS Hospital, hoping for a solution to her debilitating condition.
Dr. Y. Manoj Kumar, the Head of Urology at KIMS Hospital, explained the challenging case: “The patient arrived at our department with severe urine leakage that developed after her previous hysterectomy. Our comprehensive diagnostic tests, including a CT cystography, revealed she had three vesicovaginal fistulas. These are abnormal connections that had formed between her urinary bladder and vagina due to complications from her initial surgery, directly causing the constant urine leakage she was experiencing.”
Dr. Kumar detailed the complex surgical approach: “During the operation, our team meticulously separated the bladder and vaginal walls. We then carefully cleaned and repaired the damaged tissues. To ensure robust healing and prevent recurrence, we reconstructed the area using fresh, healthy tissue layers. We are pleased to report that all three fistulas were successfully closed with exceptional precision.” The patient’s recovery has been excellent, and she has since been discharged in good health, a testament to the hospital’s dedicated care and surgical skill.
