In a significant breakthrough, Nellore police have apprehended a 29-year-old man suspected of being behind a string of chain snatchings and thefts across the district. The individual, identified as Ch. Srinath from Surayapalem village in Podalakur mandal, was arrested in Pogathota on Monday.
Srinath, a B. Tech graduate working as an engineer in a private firm, reportedly turned to crime to settle extensive debts accumulated through casino visits, online betting, and various gambling activities. Authorities state he is responsible for stealing seven motorcycles and snatching gold chains in two separate incidents.
One such incident occurred on September 23, when Srinath allegedly targeted 67-year-old Sola Lakshmamma, snatching her gold chain as she was showing her house for rent. A case was promptly filed at the One-Town (Chinna Bazar) police station.
A dedicated special team, led by Circle Inspector Ch. Koteswara Rao and Sub-Inspector A. Ayyappa, successfully tracked down and arrested Srinath. Their diligent efforts resulted in the recovery of two gold chains, weighing approximately 8 grams and 40 grams, along with all seven stolen motorcycles, collectively valued at ₹5.15 lakh.
Nellore Superintendent of Police, Ajitha Vejendla, commended the special team for their swift action in apprehending the accused and bringing these criminal activities to a halt, announcing a well-deserved reward for their exceptional work.
