West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spearheaded a significant protest rally through the streets of Kolkata on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. The demonstration was a strong condemnation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has controversially labeled as ‘silent invisible rigging.’
The TMC maintains that this electoral revision process is a calculated maneuver by the BJP-led central government and the Election Commission to manipulate future election outcomes. Thousands of ardent TMC supporters, waving party flags and holding colorful posters, filled the rally route, passionately chanting slogans against the perceived electoral malpractices.
Leading the 3.8-kilometer march was Mamata Banerjee herself, dressed in her signature white cotton saree and slippers. She began the procession from the iconic statue of B.R. Ambedkar on Red Road, pausing frequently to acknowledge and greet supporters lining balconies and pavements. Her nephew and TMC national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, walked closely behind her, also waving to the enthusiastic crowds, surrounded by other prominent party leaders and ministers.
The impressive rally concluded at Jorasanko Thakur Bari, the ancestral home of the revered poet Rabindranath Tagore, marking a powerful statement against the contentious electoral revision.
