In a significant crackdown on October 31, the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and Masab Tank Police successfully apprehended a drug peddler, seizing narcotics valued at an estimated ₹12 lakh. This operation marks a crucial step in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in the region.
The arrested individual has been identified as Ejaz Ahmed, a 28-year-old civil contractor hailing from Bengaluru. During the raid, authorities discovered a significant cache of illicit substances, including 11 grams of MDMA, 35 grams of cocaine, 5 grams of OG kush, and 15 ecstasy pills weighing 7.7 grams. In addition to the drugs, ₹1,100 in cash and a mobile phone were also confiscated. Ahmed now faces charges under various sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, with a case officially registered at the Masab Tank Police Station.
Originally from Bihar, Ejaz Ahmed had reportedly dropped out of his B.Tech program in Bengaluru during his final year. According to police, Ahmed’s journey into the drug trade began during the 2020 lockdown, when he started consuming drugs with friends. Over time, his personal use escalated, leading him to peddle narcotics as a means to sustain his own addiction.
An H-NEW officer detailed Ahmed’s methods, stating that he acquired MDMA, cocaine, OG kush, and ecstasy pills from Nigerian suppliers via a Bengaluru-based Nigerian transporter. All communications and payments were conducted through WhatsApp and online platforms. Ahmed then transported these drugs to Hyderabad, where he intended to sell them at inflated prices to local consumers.
Police have issued a stern warning, noting a disturbing trend where students and employees who become addicted to drugs often resort to peddling to finance their habits, exacerbating the city’s drug problem. The HNEW strongly advises the public to avoid narcotics and urges parents to closely monitor their children for any signs of involvement. Citizens are encouraged to report any information related to drug abuse or trafficking to the HNEW team at 8712661601.
